The Toddler Hut is a not-for-profit community run playgroup for 2½ - 5 year olds. Started in 1929 it is the oldest independent childcare facility in the UK. It is situated on a lovely site on the prom, overlooking the sea in Portobello, Edinburgh's seaside.
The existing building is not fit for purpose with leaking roofs, drafty windows and very poor energy performance (with a SAP rating at G - the lowest).
Having sent our son to the Toddler Hut we have been working with a steering group of parents and staff over the last 2 years to help develop the brief and begin the design process.
Our initial designs, shown here, were presented to the client group in January 2012 and are going out to a wider community consultation in February/March 2012.
