| Portobello Long House A long, narrow site led to some interesting thinking about scale and skyline. Direct access off a mews with no pavement and a house with no front garden means privacy in the house would be a key issue. We took the view that the house would need to be raised up by 500mm to offer some privacy and primacy to the entrance. At the front the house is roofed and clad using a dark grey metal standing seam system; to reference the light industrial heritage of the lane. At the rear however the intention was to soften the aesthetic by replacing the 1st floor metal cladding with horizontal weathered larch cladding. A long deck and sliding doors provide access to the west facing garden. |
