Study and Furniture

A proposed study at the bottom of the garden, housing an office, wc, shower and storage. This little building can also be used as guestroom for visitors and eventually a teenage den for the clients young children.

The building is sunken 1m into the ground to reduce the building's visual impact, overshadowing on the garden and to limit the impact of the client's neighbour / friends.

Included in the brief was the requirement for a laundry, utility space accessed directly from the kitchen. It was a challenging brief in a house which has had close to it's maximum number of iterative extensions.

We came up with a disappearing room, connected to the house at times but separate-able, when the washing machine is on for example, and glazed to allow light into one of the adjacent bedrooms. We are looking forward to construction of what would be closer to furniture than building.
