| Living Dining Kitchen Proposal for a new Living, Dining and Kitchen arrangement within a standard 1930's Edinburgh bungalow. The brief was to make a new kitchen and family room with a direct connection to the garden. One of the problems was that the garden's aspect was 'wrong', North facing rather than South. We proposed adding a small extension, no wider than a large bay window to drag in as much west light as possible. The narrow extension space was designed with transluscent screens to form a Japanese engawa: a solar space that could offer a buffer to the cold on winter evenings but open up the House to the garden in summer. The work was to be phased in three stages with a bedroom extension replacing the existing too-narrow-garage in the last phase. |
